Youth Literacy

In partnership with the SideDoor Youth Centre, we undertook a
special project to engage out of school youth in a multi-media project. We worked with a local filmmaker who facilitated workshops on filming, editing and developing storylines for youth that participated in the SideDoor programs. The result was the production of a video called: YKY - A Short Film About Youth in Yellowknife. It highlights activities that local youth found positive in their lives - skateboarding, snowmobiling, music and dance and the SideDoor. The video was recently launched at the SideDoor with over 45 youth attending the special event and will be distributed to various youth programs throughout the NWT.
