Community Literacy Development
One of our key goals is to increase the capacity of individuals
and organizations to build sustainable literacy projects and
supports. Over the past year we delivered the following services:

Tools for Community Building workshop - a 3 day
workshop that assists participants to 1) identify literacy needs
in their community, 2) develop skills in program planning and 3)
develop
skills in proposal writing and
fundraising to support their literacy project;
- Tools for Community
Building Resource Manual - We
developed a resource manual based on the Tools
workshop and distributed it to all Community Learning
Centres and literacy practitioners in the NWT;
- Supports for Learners with Disabilities - We offered a
three-day Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
training event for adult educators. 36 educators from
across the NWT participated in the training.
- Tutor Training - We
provided training to local literacy
tutoring programs;
- Family Literacy Workshops - delivery of specific
family literacy workshops to community groups
- Outreach and Support - we provide ongoing support to
community literacy projects via phone, e-mail and mail.
