Information Sharing / Resource Development
Providing information and resources to literacy practitioners and
community organizations has been an important part of our work.
Over the past year we have provided relevant, timely information
and tools to the literacy community throughout the NWT.
Information sharing activities included:
- Distribution of our quarterly newsletters Literacy Matters and Family
Literacy Times to over 800 individuals and
organizations;
- Redesigned and enhanced our web site -
www.nwt.literacy.ca. Most documents published by the
NWT Literacy Council are now available on-line;
- Catalogued our resource
library and researched
approaches to on-line borrowing;
- Continued to support electronic
conferencing through e-lit
and North of 60 electronic bulletin boards.
- Developed NWTLC e-News,
an electronic list serve to
share news and information with the literacy field.
Resource development activities included:
- Developed The Northern Edge an online, interactive
newspaper that provides articles and learning activities for
northern adult learners. It is available on our website at
www.nwt.literacy.ca.
- Developed online and print resources for Lessons
from
the Land: A Virtual Map of the NWT: Idaa Trail in
partnership with the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage
Centre. The resource supports the ALBE curriculum and
has been distributed to all Community Learning Centres
and adult literacy programs in the NWT. A link to
Lessons from the Land and the resources is available on
our web site;

in
piloting AlphaRoute an online literacy program used by
adult learners in Ontario. AlphaRoute will be piloted in 5
sites during the upcoming year.

to Assistive
Technology. The guide highlights software and hardware
that support the literacy and learning needs of persons
with disabilities.
