One way to show the important role that Elders play in the community and the workshop is to invite respected Elders from your community. Their knowledge of the past, traditional practices and how things have changed in their lifetime will be a valuable asset to the workshop. It is important to stress that in order to move forward we must have a strong understanding of our past and what values and skills we want to take forward.

Storytelling

graphic - cartoon dawing of a boy and a girl Storytelling is a very strong tradition in the Aboriginal communities in the North and we strongly recommend using storytelling in your workshop. Beginning each session with a story by an Elder or a reading from a book is a very powerful way to begin. Try to find local stories and legends that relate to the theme that you will be talking about during the session.
