Family Literacy Training Institutes

The family literacy training institutes were a huge success. We have provided week-long training in family literacy and different program models to all 6 regions in the NWT. These workshops help to build local skills so community members can deliver family literacy programs in their home community.

What is the training about?
The family literacy training institutes provide participants with information on family literacy and training on how to facilitate family literacy programs in their home communities. The training includes the following:

As a result of the family literacy training we have over 25 new family literacy initiatives in the NWT. Communities are delivering many different types of family literacy projects from family literacy nights to developing Aboriginal language games.

Each community is entitled to $3000 to start a family literacy project. This funding will be available for the 2003/ 2004 year also.
