Family Literacy Resources
The I Can't Sing Book: For Grownups Who Can't Carry a Tune in a Paper Bag... but Want to Do Music With Young Children
by Jackie Silberg
Singing
is a great way of building special loving relationships with your children.
Music and singing help develop children's listening, language, and motor
skills, and also build self esteem. If you can tap two spoons together
or twang a rubber band you can have a great time sharing music with your
children! From Lullabies to Literacy: Building Foundations for Learning: A Curriculum for Community Agencies
by the Macaulay Child Development Centre in Toronto This
book can be
used in family literacy programs with groups of parents and caregivers.
The
book can be used as a multi-week program or as single session workshops.
There are three key principles to the book:
- Literacy learning
begins at home.
- Literacy learning happens around daily activities.
- Parents
play a critical
role in their child's early literacy development.
