BookshelfWe just received two new reading and math workbooks from the Dartmouth Literacy Network.

  • My Front Yard
  • Math for All Ages

These workbooks have been created by adult learners for Level One (literacy) students. The books compliment each other by offering a math and reading perspective on similar subjects. The workbooks focus on the history, geography, and government of Canada. Each book is divided into 35 lessons, which are:

check mark image fun and interesting
check mark image designed to allow a gradual skill progression

You can purchase them from the Dartmouth Literacy Network for $12 for each book.

The Virtual Museum of Canada is a great website that has a number of virtual exhibits that focus on the north that are worth checking out. There’s also a ‘Teachers Centre’ where you can get lesson plans and links to other websites.

www.enchantedlearning.com has LOTS of on-line and printable activities and worksheets for children. It’s bright and cheerful and covers a lot of topics and ideas.

The Teacher Induction website developed by Education, Culture and Employment is not only for new people to the NWT but for anyone working in the education field. The website contains useful information on culture and traditions and has excellent links to other great websites. Check it out!

The National Adult Literacy Database is an excellent website on adult literacy. You can find out information on literacy from across the country, from conferences to new resources developed. www.nald.ca
