YKY - Video Launch

Over 50 youth attended the launch of the YKY Youth Video on October 27th at the SideDoor Youth Centre in Yellowknife.

YKY, which stands for Yellowknife Youth, highlights some of the positive things about being a youth in Yellowknife. It was made by youth who spend time at the Side Door Youth Centre. The video includes scenes of snowmobiling, break dancing, skateboarding, and a rap contest.

The film was written, filmed and edited by local youth with the support of local filmmaker Paul Gordon. The video was a way to promote literacy among youth. The youth participated in workshops aimed at teaching them how to use video and computer editing equipment.

The video project was a partnership between the SideDoor and the NWT Literacy Council with funding from the National Literacy Secretariat. You can view the video on the NWT Literacy Council website at www.nwt.literacy.ca.
