Literacy - A Federal Election IssueWhat's InsideVery Successful E-Conference a Big Success Aboriginal Literacy Golf Tournament Highlights According to Statistics Canada, close to 8 million Canadians do not have the literacy skills they need to meet the demands of the workplace and to participate fully in their community. Literacy is strongly linked to the economy, health, citizenship, poverty, crime prevention, and healthy sustainable communities. Addressing our literacy challenges is key to dealing with some of these pressing issues. Canada is one of only a few industrialized countries without a national strategy for adult literacy. Literacy is too important to our country not to have national leadership and a national vision. Provincial and territorial governments have identified literacy as a priority area in need of attention. It’s time the federal government looks seriously at the literacy challenges in our country and takes action. Ask the federal candidates
where they stand on literacy.
